Starbucks announced on the 9th

The coffee chain Starbucks announced on the 9th that it will completely stop using plastic straws by 2020. All storefronts will eliminate disposable plastic straws within two years. In response to the fight against disposable plastic products, Starbucks' current 28,000 stores use one-time plastic straws to reach one billion a year.

According to reports, after several months of testing, Starbucks confirmed the decision on Twitter: the company will use a new polypropylene cup cover instead of a plastic straw, which will be designed with openings and nozzles for drinking. Compared with plastic straws, the new lids are bulky, easy to sort and easy to recycle. The new lid is now available in stores in the US and Canada and is the standard lid for some cold drinks. In addition, Starbucks said it will also provide environmentally friendly straws made from alternative materials for cold drinks to meet the preferences of some customers.

Hazard of disposable plastic straws:

1. Injury to the human body: Disposable straws contain toxic substances, which are harmful to people's health. Many straws are marked with no bisphenol-based propane, but there may be other harmful substances, especially some streetsides. Many of the straws used by small vendors are wholesaled from small workshops that do not meet the requirements and contain a large number of toxic substances that may cause cancer.

2, the harm to the environment: disposable plastic straw has the characteristics of stable and not easy to degrade, discarded in nature at least 2000 years to be degraded, made of recyclable materials, but because the volume is too small, light weight, It is easy to be ignored by the recycler. There are two kinds of fatal lifespans for disposable straws, either burned or accumulated in the environment; both of these results will cause harm to people and the environment.

3. Discarded plastic products may enter our body. The investigation found that traces of micro-plastics can be found in our current edible water, and they cannot be filtered by sewage treatment plants. In addition, microplastics pose a potential risk to marine life and human health. They enter the body of fish and are eaten together.

4. According to statistics, the United States uses 500 million plastic straws a day, and most of the straws will flow to the sea, polluting water sources and killing marine life in the ocean. In recent years, we have often seen news broadcasts, the discovery of plastic products in the body of fish in the ocean, especially some large marine fish, or marine life because of the loss of life of plastic products. According to the survey, about 800 to 1,100 tons of plastic waste enters the ocean every year, and most of them are broken down into debris and eaten by marine organisms. If this situation continues, it is expected that there will be more plastic waste in the ocean than fish in 2050.

5. In addition to the above-mentioned hazards, disposable plastic straws also bring us no small harm in life. And statistics show that every year there are thousands of children accidentally injured by plastic pipettes. One person counts on the life expectancy of 60 years old. Everyone uses an average of nearly 38,000 plastic straws in their lifetime. With these figures and cases, we must take a more cautious view of plastic straws and no longer despise its existence.

The ultra-common plastic in daily life is a disposable straw. For this small straw, it is used in a lot of ways. Her harm should not be underestimated. It is imperative to ban disposable plastic straws.
